Taken during bowling last friday.
Good time by all.
Just working on projects. Big things at work and big things at home.
I hope to have some more sketch book pages this week, but I’ve been doing sketching for work outside of work and that has been taking up more of my time than I would like.
Hope to have something soon.
Have a good one.

Couple more portraits. I really have to go back to basics. I’m thrown off by things that should have been caught from the start.

Kathy is off. She has a really pretty smile and great eyes and I wasn’t able to capture that. Aaron is a bit closer, but I dropped about 5 to 7 years off of him. At least I’m working on it, which is a huge change from even a year ago.
I’m loving it. It feels great to work on my own time again.
More soon.
Tonight I bowl with the coworkers.
I’ll try not to step over the line.
That’s against the rules.

Spring is very close to here, which means I am already getting hit with the Sinus problems. I’m borderline infection again and it’s no fun. I just keep up on the meds and I should be fine. Just have to make it till winter
I don’t have any new material to bring to the table, but I have been sketching and have started 5 large portraits. It’s been a couple of years since my last large full color portrait. I wasn’t to happy with how it turned out.
This time around I would like to see if I can do a high quality job on each while working on all of them at once.
Almost like an assembly line. Start with pencils on all, markers, Colored pencils, Paint, and finish with ink where it needs. It will be interesting to see how they turn out. I’m really excited to get into the work.
With spring soon here, I have also been needing a new wardrobe. I was on line looking around at shirts and came across this wonderful shirt. It’s 50 of the most famous robots ever. I’m not going to pick it up, but it was great trying to name as many as I could. Check it out. It’s from chopshop. Click the image to go to the site.

I’ve participated in both sections of the 100 artists project put together by the very patient Ben Rollman. He has done a great job with it , and after a long hard road it looks to be working out for everyone.

Here is the blog for it, which has been updated often.
I’ve loved seeing everyones work as it was sent in and Ben would post it. I just finished my image for the large mailer and it was a blast. I’ll now hand the book off to the next guy and he gets one page to do what ever he likes. I’ll post again about the project when the book gets finished.
For now, here is my page.

One final note. Congrats to my Cousin Christine for becoming a Mommy yesterday. I haven’t had any other news than that, but we are happy for her.
Talk to you soon.

Couple of new images of the little one. John Adams was good last night. I really enjoyed it.
The weekend was enjoyable and now it’s off to work.
I really didn’t have much. Hope to have something sketchbook related soon.

Really not to happy with the way these turned out. It’s many things. The spacing and proportions on my Dad are way off. Doesn’t even look like him anymore. The eyes, hair, mouth… Once one thing was off the rest when down hill.
I tried painting the back ground white first to see if the Gouashe would work better and that was a big no. Must stick with acrylic when I paint over it again.
The colors were all very plain.
Still, I liked the way my mom turned out. And it just makes me want to revisit my dad another day. Not for a bit. I’ll wait a while. But I feel like I have to get it right.
I also think I really don’t like what I see because I see these two in a way I don’t feel I can capture and That usually stops me from putting them to paper.
My wife always wants me to work on an image of her and I have not done a serious portrait in her likeness because I could never put to paper what I see. I would hate what I create.
Off to something new. Don’t know what that is yet. I hope to have more for you very soon.
Have a good one.

I had a nice birthday weekend and with that it was back to work today.
New catalogs dropped with some of my new characters found within.
This is art for one of our Vacation Bible School themes this year.
The Science of Faith.

More can be found on my site if you look under Illustration/ Kids, or Product with these characters under Product/Miscellaneous. This art will be used on many different products that will be sold off to churches hosting a Sciece theme this year for their summer camps.
Not my strongest subject matter. I’m usually known for being the creator of undead things at work. And I’m also not the strongest in the room when it comes to kids characters, but I think these came out OK.
The younger look for the characters is something that I will always struggle with. It’s something I will also always enjoy working on though.
Fun litte fact?
These guys appeared in my sketchbook almost a year ago and are just now seeing the light of day.

Another sketchbook spread.

I really do love this little book. I still don’t do as much in it as I would like, but the paper is great.
I think I will be sticking with this brand for close to ever.
I have the day off today and am going to spend it with the girls when they get back from their mommy class this morning. I’m looking forward to it. Three day weekends rule.
Amy and I watched BladeRunner last night after lost. (the character ben was awesome in lost last night. I haven’t loved and hated a character like this since Hearst in the third season of Deadwood.)
I forgot how great BladeRunner was. Or how young Harrison Ford looked in it.
It’s still choppy in places, but I found myself paying attention to the backgrounds through the whole thing and just being amazed at what they pulled off. Nothing too special with today’s current movies. But still.
I have a huge urge to do portraits of my parents in my book. I had a dream earlier this week that I was working on them and they started to talk to me. My Dad was talking about the Sox season this year and my Mom was mumbling because I had not finished her mouth yet.
I really didn’t seem to be phased by this at all and just continued to work on them.
So with any luck you will see portraits this week. Just not ones that talk.
