Stuff I’m diggin’

Gorilla Art Fare is one of the best blogs I’ve come across in a long time.
Just take a look at all the great art and artists on there.

I can spend Hours just looking over the work and visiting the links.

Go and look. Enjoy if you are not creative, Learn if you are.

Today at work
Here are some eyes for you.

Another Face

I was really looking forward to working on this today, and from the moment
I started it this morning it wasn’t working for me.
I hope tomorrow is a better day. If I have time I will go back and fix this guy up.
If I can.
I really need to prep better before just jumping in.

Good or bad, you learn from everything you do. And I think I learned a lot from this mess.

More later.

At work today

I will be happy when this job is done, but I am having fun working on it.
It usually takes a bit to get back into the swing of things after
very large job like this one.
Here is a portrait done today.
Proportions are WAY off, but I’m still getting the hang of this.
All from scratch. Click for look at the work area.

Quiet Night

Crippled Black Phoenix on in the back ground.
Getting colder outside. Snow tomorrow with winds up to 45 mph.
Long week ahead.

People you should know.

I’m going to try to post some people here that I can’t get enough of. All really talented people that update their stuff often and are good to start checking out. I wont show images off their site because I don’t want to harm the set up they have going on.
Check them out and tell me what you think.

Paul Maybury
Artist out of Boston. Met him a couple of times and he hangs out at PencilJack. Good guy and phenomenal artist that has really come into his own in the last year or two. I hope to see him explode in the comic scene in a big way. His brush work and color are why I keep coming back.
His whole foods signs are the best. period.
That’s all.

Francis Vallejo
I show up for the sketchbook. I love his work and just recently found the blog. I look for updates every day now. Hell of a list of links as well at the bottom of the blog.

Ryan Kelly
Works on a bunch of books, but his work on Local with Brian Wood is really, really good. One of the best books of the last year. Tons of emotion in his people. Look at his stuff.

That’s it for now. Hope to have a new sketch or two in a bit.
I leave you with the little one trying to get to the controls.

Blue Monday

Everything gets better from here. A british scientist has said that the last Monday of January is the most depressing day of the year. I didn’t think it was a great Monday, but it wasn’t that bad. So from here on out, things can only look up.
This was done today while waiting for files to save. I think I am done with the huge files for now and wont be working as much in my sketch book. I will try to get something new done and up every couple of days or so, but don’t hold me to it.
But for now…
Keep looking up

JOIN OR DIE

March 16th really cant come quick enough for me this year. John Adams by David McCullough has been made into an HBO Mini series that will be in the same vein as Band of Brothers. 6 to 8 one hour episodes that already look amazing from the little bit that we have seen.
I’m a revolution geek. A small one, but still one all the same. Almost all the books I’ve read and finished in the last couple of years have all been on the subject. Really good ones as well.
The current book is So Help Me God: The Founding Fathers and the First Great Battle Over Church and State by Forrest Church. so far it’s a great read and gives you a good look into what the first 5 Presidents had to deal with when it came to Faith and there new Government.

When I watched the latest clip on the HBO site I was pushed into doing these sketches of Adams and Jefferson. They are Gouache and pen. It was a lot of fun to do. I have places I’m really not happy with. My handwriting is just as horrible as my spelling and grammar. Jefferson really doesn’t look like Jefferson. I made his head small and not angular enough. But I was really happy at how well the book took the gouache. It worked really, really well with no bleed through.

Sleepy Time

I’m really tired. Totally beat. I’ve just started a very large job at work and I have very mixed feelings about it. I can’t say what it is, but it’s keeping me from my team. They are getting ready to tackle a very large and fun goal and I have to sit this one out. I really feel like I’m not helping in any way.
It’s odd.
Also, I wont be able to show anything off for close to a year. Which is no good. Look for a new sketch or something in a day or so. I will see what I can post.
But as you wait…Amy Shot this a little while ago. She was just too cute. She was running around the house like that and having a ball.
Right. Off to bed.

Hot Rod

This was a piece that was completed last year.

It was done with Gouache and I haven’t used Gouache sinch I was in school. It was really nice to use and I would love to play with it more if time allowed.I had to re-learn how to layer the color and it was on the fly.I hope it came out OK for the person who received it. I hope to have more like this to post soon. At least more in the sketchbook section. In other news, I’m behind at work because I was sick yesterday.I had THE worst sinus infection I have ever had. It was horrible. Usually I have about 3 to 5 sinus infections a year. I’ve gotten pretty good at taking care of my self when I get them and fighting them off. This was like nothing else I’ve had. Maybe it was because of the cold I had as well.I’m not sure. I do know it was the most pain I’ve been in since my appendix almost rupturing a couple of years ago. I had about 1 hour of sleep for the last 48 hours because of it.I had to take the day off from work.Amy took care of me like I was an infant and then let me sleep when I could.I slept from about 9 till about 4:30 or so yesterday afternoon. So far So good this morning. It just feels like a normal sinus infection now. One that I can handle.
